We’re obsessed with smoothies around these parts; they’re the perfect way to start your day or rid yourself of sugar cravings! Be sure to try this incredible Acai Bowl, a Blueberry Smoothie, or this insanely good Banana Smoothie next.

Mangoes are one of my favorite fruits, so you can bet I’ve worked to perfect this mango smoothie! We love this smoothie all summer (and if I’m honest, winter!) long. It’s flavorful, fresh, nutritious, and best of all, fruity!

What fruit mixes well with mango?

When blended, the flavor of mango tends to be more muted than it is when eaten plain. Because of this, it really pairs well with other fruits. I recommend pairing it with strawberries, peaches, bananas, and oranges in this smoothie recipe. Below are some other flavor variations for a Mango Smoothie.

  • Berries: Add raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries.
  • Citrus: Add a few squeezes of lemon or lime and plenty of orange juice.
  • Other combos: Try this smoothie with some other fruits, such as pineapple, papaya, or guava. Switch up the liquid with apple juice or coconut water!

Process shot: cutting and freezing bananas.

How to Make a Mango Smoothie

  • Freeze the banana: While this Mango Smoothie is quick and easy to make, it does require a bit of planning to make sure all the fruit is frozen and ready to use. I like to prep the bananas right after a grocery store run,  so I don’t forget. Remove the peel, slice the banana into coins, place in freezer-safe containers or bags, and freeze overnight.
  • Measure: Add the ingredients, as listed, to the blender. Take the time to accurately measure the ingredients so that the flavors and texture are correctly balanced.
  • Blend: If you have a high-powered blender (I recommend a Vitamix® or Blendtec®), you can add everything in and blend until smooth. If you don’t have a powerful blender, follow manufacturer instructions for what ingredients to add first to avoid cavitation.

QUICK TIP

While it might seem silly to actually measure out ingredients for a smoothie instead of just throwing everything in, I highly recommend measuring ingredients the first few times you make this or until you have a feel for the quantities. Throwing random ingredients in a blender can often end up giving you WAY too much smoothie or tasting, well, nasty. It’s also a good idea to measure if you’re tracking macros or calories.

Process shot: all the ingredients in the blender, ready to blend.

But wait– there isn’t ice listed in the ingredients for this healthy mango smoothie recipe. What’s up with that?!

Don’t you put ice in smoothies?

You generally won’t find ice in any of my smoothie recipes, because I find it detracts from the fruits’ flavors! If you have fully frozen fruit, you’ll get the perfect thick smoothie consistency.

How do you make a smoothie thicker?

  1. Good ripe bananas make all the difference in this smoothie. Freeze the bananas when they’re super ripe and use only when completely frozen. Bananas truly thicken up healthy smoothies like nothing else.
  2. Mango is actually a great thickening agent in smoothies, so add extra mango if you want it thicker.
  3. Reducing the amount of liquid will also make the smoothie thicker. Of course if there isn’t enough liquid, everything might not blend together.

Mango Smoothie variations

  • To make this smoothie without orange juice, use apple juice or pineapple juice in its place.
  • Additional nutrition: Add some greens! A few handfuls of baby spinach would work well in this smoothie. Or check out my green smoothie recipe for our favorite green smoothie!

Shelf life for Mango Smoothies

Generally, a smoothie will keep about 8-12 hours in the fridge. A quick smell will clue you into knowing if the smoothie is okay or not. If you do plan on storing a smoothie, Refrigerate it in a container with an airtight lid. You’ll want to fill that container to the very top to prevent air being trapped in the container because this will oxidize (turn brown) the nutrients in the smoothie.

For this Mango Smoothie recipe, I recommend using it up in one sitting, preferably right after making it. This smoothie really doesn’t sit or store well.
