Ingredients

Instructions

  • PREP: Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F and line a large sheet pan or two smaller sheet pans with a silicone liner or parchment paper. (Don't skip lining the pan!)
  • BAKE: Place the pretzels on the prepared sheet pan and top each pretzel with an unwrapped chocolate. Bake in the preheated oven for 2-4 minutes (See Note 3.) or until the chocolates are soft but not melted.
  • M&M'S: Once out of the oven, press an M&M on the center of each chocolate covered pretzel.
  • ALLOW TO SET UP: Allow the pretzels to cool and the chocolate to fully harden before eating. This should take about 1 hour at room temperature or for faster results, put the tray in the fridge for about 15 minutes. We love eating these straight from the fridge!

Notes

Note 1: Pretzels: To maintain the heart-shaped theme of this treat, I recommend using pretzel twists. However, snap pretzels are a great alternative as well. Avoid using butter-flavored pretzels as they can detract from the flavor of the chocolate.
Note 2: Chocolates: We use Dove chocolate hearts to keep with the Valentine's Day theme. Other options include chocolate kisses (in any flavor), Hugs candies, or Rolos. You can also combine different types of chocolate to create a platter of visually appealing and delicious treats. (Heads-up: Regular chocolate kisses and Rolos tend to melt better than Hugs, but all are delicious choices.)
Note 3: Baking time: If the chocolate is crumbling, it means the oven was too hot or the chocolate was baked too long. If the M&M's won't press in nicely, the oven was too cool or chocolate wasn't baked long enough. To ensure proper baking time, bake one pretzel with chocolate as a test run before baking the rest of the batch. This way, you can gauge the appropriate timing for your specific oven, as ovens can vary. Once you've tested it, you'll know the timing for the rest in your particular oven! Convection oven settings should not be used for this recipe.
